Mr. Martin Mohammed is Founder and President of the United States African Chamber of Commerce (USACC) Mr. Mohammed is from Somalia and was among those whose lives were forever changed by the civil war. He came to the United States as a refugee in 1998 and settled in Minnesota. Muriel interviews Bobby Bailey of “Invisible Children”

Bobby Bailey, along with two of his friends, Jason Russell and Laren Poole founded Invisible Children, Inc in 2004 after a life-changing trip to Africa, where they discovered the story of the children in Northern Uganda who were being abducted from their homes and forced to fight as child soldiers by the rebel group the Lords Resistance Army. After returning home they made the documentary film (Invisible Children: Rough Cut) and began showing the film to thousands around the world through screenings at high schools, colleges and churches.

Since then, Invisible Children (IC) has matured from its extremely humble beginnings at a staggering rate. In just over four years, IC has grown into a worldwide organization with offices in San Diego, London, Kampala and Gulu. (more…)

Youth Cultural Ambassadors to visit Senegal

The Yakkers Corner has the pleasure of yakking again with Mr. Charles Fisher, Founder and Chairman of the Hip Hop Summit Youth Council (HHSYC).

HHSYC is organizing to send a group of Youth Cultural Ambassadors to visit SenegalĀ  in December to participate in an international youth summit atĀ  the World Festival of Black Arts (FESMAN) http://fesman.collectivex.com This will be the first of a series of visits around the world with young people as cultural ambassadors for peace.

He has been in the entertainment field for almost thirty years. Former manager of LL Cool J and co-discoverer of R. Kelly, Mr. Fisher has been involved with the Hip Hop Community and was motivated to form the HHSYC (hhsyc.org ) where he serves as role model, teacher, and counselor for youth in urban areas. (more…)
