Muriel interviews Bobby Bailey of “Invisible Children”

Listen Now

Bobby Bailey, along with two of his friends, Jason Russell and Laren Poole founded Invisible Children, Inc in 2004 after a life-changing trip to Africa, where they discovered the story of the children in Northern Uganda who were being abducted from their homes and forced to fight as child soldiers by the rebel group the Lords Resistance Army. After returning home they made the documentary film (Invisible Children: Rough Cut) and began showing the film to thousands around the world through screenings at high schools, colleges and churches.

Since then, Invisible Children (IC) has matured from its extremely humble beginnings at a staggering rate. In just over four years, IC has grown into a worldwide organization with offices in San Diego, London, Kampala and Gulu. Invisible Children’s unique strength lies in the ability to connect a young global generation to sustainable development programs in Uganda in a personal way through the power of media and storytelling. The organization is impacting youth that have not previously connected with any other non-profits or human rights work and is on the forefront of a growing cultural change, influencing youth towards the values of creativity, service, and sacrifice.

Since 2004, Invisible Children has reached over 3 million people and raised over $25 Million Dollars for our awareness, advocacy and development programs. Currently, Invisible Children is leading a massive grassroots effort to ask for an internationally led strategy to Rescue Joseph Kony’s Child Soldiers. Invisible Children is a social, political and global movement using the transformative power of story to change lives. By inspiring youth culture to value creativity, idealism and sacrifice, the movement fuels the most effective, adaptable and innovative programs in the world.
